Women, lipids, and atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease: A call to action from
the European Atherosclerosis Society.
Roeters van Lennep J, et al. Eur Heart J. 2023 Oct 14;44(39):4157-4173.
Atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease (ASCVD) is the leading cause of death in both men and women, with mortality rates for
middle-aged women (45–64 years) having the fastest relative increase in recent years. This European Atherosclerosis Society (EAS)
position statement is a ‘call to action’ for improving ASCVD prevention strategies in women, with a focus on sex differences in lipids
over the life course.
